Supplemental Topics
- Optional but Helpful -
If you have reached a point in Professor B Math where your child just needs some time to practice or needs a break, the resources listed below are excellent tools to use. Is your student required to take standardized testing? These books will cover the "extras" like geometry, charts, graphs, etc. that Professor B math does not cover.
We highly recommend using the Life of Fred Math program for covering all of the topics not covered by Professor B. Professor B specializes in teaching the basic math facts and skills. Life of Fred provides practical application and covers all of the other topics like time, money, measurement, and more.
Mathematical Reasoning® Supplements
Mathematical Reasoning™ Supplement books reinforces grade appropriate math concepts by helping students devise strategies to solve a wide variety of math problems as they develop analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for success in higher-level mathematics. These activities encourage students to develop investigative, analytical, and explanatory skills as well as a variety of quantitative and spatial relationships that are an essential part of the foundation of mathematics. Students who successfully complete these books will see gains in vocabulary development, observational skills, and the ability to process mathematical concepts on a much higher level. The activities are arranged in six sections which address six major strands in mathematics curriculum.
These highly effective activities take students far beyond drill-and-practice by using step-by-step, discussion-based problem solving to develop a conceptual bridge between computation and the reasoning required for upper-level math. Activities and units spiral slowly, allowing students to become comfortable with concepts but also challenging them to continue building their math skills.

Math Detective®
Math Detective's® uses topics and skills drawn from national math standards to prepare your students for advanced math courses and assessments that measure reasoning, reading comprehension, and writing in math.
Students read a short story that includes a chart, table, or graph. Next, they answer critical thinking questions to improve their understanding of the math concept and develop their critical thinking (comprehension) skills. Students can't just scan the story for answers–they must carefully analyze and synthesize the information from the text and the chart, table, or graph to explain and support their answers. Stories are age-relevant, high-interest, and show students that math is integral to everyday activities.
